Can Machel Montano Get Nominated for a Grammy?

This week, after winning the Monarch competition for the 5th time, he let it slip out he has a bigger vision.  This is not new, he has mentioned it on many occasions.

Today's Carnival Sunday Trinidad Express headline states,  "Machel Passes Soca Baston: Sets Sights on Grammy" .  

He is serious..

That is a big thing but for some people, it's the little things that count.  How you deal with unexpected situations and occurrences can give some insight into the other side of a person's character.

Last week it was reported that Machel allowed his emotions to control his behavior, publicly lamblasting everyone in sight.  His, what was described as "disrespectful behavior" triggered an immediate response of hundreds of patrons walking out of the event.

Later it was reported that he refused to apologize.  It may appear that this is totally unrelated to his desire to get a Grammy nomination but like was noted before, it is the little things that count.

In 2013 he was nominated along with Bunji Garlin to the Soul Train Awards  Best International Performance' category.  Bunji won in that category.  Then in 2014 his winning Road March "Ministry of the Road" was nominated along with a number of other local artists.

The Grammy is no Soul Train Award, getting the attention of over 100 million people is a far cry from enticing 1.3 million people to jump and wave..  Here's what the Grammy Awards is according to Wikipedia:

A Grammy Award (originally called Gramophone Award), or Grammy, is an accolade by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) of the United States to recognize outstanding achievement in the music industry. The annual presentation ceremony features performances by prominent artists, and the presentation of those awards that have a more popular interest.

The important word there is "popular interest" meaning the interest of a significant segment of the world's  population.  Popular interest will not be generated in one man but in a genre of music that is supported by many artists.  The first step is to get soca/calypso to be accepted as category before his dreams can be realized.

But never say never, with God anything is possible.

Bad move,  Instead of it starting at 8PM as advertised it started at 10PM and by that time my head was in lala land. Like Pump Up In 2000 Fantastic Friday Won In Both Competitions

The Blues have it.  Super Blue was elated yesterday after the announcement that he was the 2013 National Road March champion.  He beat  the  defending champion Machel Montano with a landslide score of  511 plays to 56.

He did not just win, he obliterated Machel Montano on the road.  More than one of my friends expressed their disappointment with the results for the Soca Monarch competition.  They felt that he was cheated out of first place in that competition.  According to one friend, his resounding victory where the people judged their preference was inevitable.

Big Surprise Ending: A Tie For First

Well I was not 100 percent wrong.  

Yesterday I predicted that Super Blue will take the Crown.  He did, half of it, he split with Montano. 

The face off ended in a draw.   Austin "SuperBlue" Lyons and Machel Montano at Friday's Play Whe International Power Soca Monarch results wer not expected by anyone.

Machel gave a spirited performance with his delivery of "Float" while SuperBlue, enchanted the crowd before he took to the stage.  He had the crowd humping with his piece, "Fantastic Friday."

Who Will Be The Groovy Soca & Power Soca Winners?

Last Year Super Blue Must Have Been Wishing He Competed; This Year He Is

Fantastic Friday is here.  This entire weekend will be partying, jumping, dancing, drinking and  loving self for no other reason than the Biggest Party in the World. The streets will be packed from early Monday morning.  As we write this school children are having their kiddies Carnival celebration in the schools and businesses are hosting their annual Carnival fetes tonight. 

Tonight is also the finals for the Digicel Groovy Soca Monarch 2013 and the National Lottery Board Play Whe international Power Soca Monarch 2013.

Last night was the 2013 Calypso Monarch with the PinkPanther being the clear winner. 

Here is the line up for both competitions hosted by the Caribbean Prestige Foundation for Performing Arts

The Play Whe International Power Soca Monarch and Digicel International Groovy Soca Monarch Competitions 2013.

This epic competition will take place on Fantasic Friday, tonight 8th February, 2013 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium at 9:00pm.

 Machel Montano (MMHD) will be defending his crown in both categories.

Each artiste will appear in the following position to challenge the reigning monarch:-

I predict that Super Blue will take the crown from Machel Montano.  There are a great line up of stars but the race will be between Mantano and Super Blue.  I know did not get it right with my last prediction.  Super Blue is a supreme performer and by now he is ready to take on Machel.
