Caribbean Countries Facing U.S. Visa Restrictions Under Proposed Trump Administration Policy

THE CARIBBEAN

Recent reports have surfaced indicating that the Trump administration is considering implementing new travel restrictions that could affect several Caribbean nations. While U.S. officials have denied the existence of a finalized list, a leaked draft has raised concerns among Caribbean governments about potential visa limitations.

The Three-Tiered Proposal

According to media sources, the proposed policy categorizes countries into three levels:

  • Red List: Complete travel bans.

  • Orange List: Partial visa suspensions affecting certain visa categories.

  • Yellow List: Countries given 60 days to address specific concerns or face potential restrictions.

Caribbean Nations Potentially Affected

Based on the leaked draft, the following Caribbean countries are reportedly included:

Red List (Complete Travel Ban)

  1. Cuba: Long-standing political tensions and concerns over governance have placed Cuba on the list for a complete travel ban.

Orange List (Partial Visa Suspension)

  1. Haiti: Ongoing security challenges and migration issues have led to Haiti's inclusion for partial visa restrictions.

Yellow List (60-Day Compliance Period)

  1. Antigua and Barbuda: Concerns over the country's Citizenship by Investment (CBI) program have prompted its placement on the yellow list.

  2. Dominica: Similar to Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica's CBI program is under scrutiny.

  3. Saint Kitts and Nevis: The nation's CBI program has raised red flags regarding vetting processes.

  4. Saint Lucia: Issues related to the CBI program and financial transparency are central to its inclusion.

Regional Response

Caribbean leaders have expressed concern over the reports, emphasizing the lack of official communication from the U.S. government. Many have sought clarification and are reviewing their CBI programs to address potential deficiencies. The U.S. State Department has stated that while a review is underway, no official list has been finalized. citeturn0search2

Implications

If implemented, these restrictions could have significant economic and social impacts on the affected Caribbean nations, particularly those reliant on tourism and remittances. The situation remains fluid, and Caribbean governments are actively engaging with U.S. counterparts to address concerns and avoid potential sanctions.

Trinidad & Tobago Feeds The World

The following article was curated from the National Gas Company website titled: How a Small Island In The Caribbean Is Feeding The World. It is being shared here to provide another perspective on the same topic.

You can read the original article HERE

Trinidad and Tobago, a picturesque Caribbean nation with a population of 1.5 million, harbors a surprising secret that belies its size. Despite its compact footprint, the country occupies a noteworthy position in the global food chain by serving as a key player in the production and export of ammonia.

Renowned as an ammonia production hub, Trinidad and Tobago boasts an impressive array of 11 world-scale ammonia production plants, collectively wielding a substantial capacity of 5.2 million tonnes annually. This significant production capacity propels the nation into the upper echelons of global ammonia exporters, holding its ground among industry giants like China, Russia, India, the United States, and Saudi Arabia.

Ammonia, a compound composed of nitrogen and hydrogen, holds immense importance as a primary raw material in the manufacture of fertilizers. Derived from ammonia, nitrogenous fertilizers are indispensable for enhancing soil fertility and fostering robust plant growth. Trinidad's substantial ammonia output plays a pivotal role in sustaining the global fertilizer industry, thereby supporting agricultural endeavors on a global scale.

In the year 2021, Trinidad and Tobago stamped its authority in the realm of nitrogenous fertilizers, exporting a noteworthy $748 million worth of these vital agricultural inputs. This feat secured the nation's position as the 15th largest exporter of nitrogenous fertilizers globally. The primary destinations for these exports included the United States, Colombia, France, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic.

The global impact of nitrogen, as facilitated by fertilizers derived from Trinidad's ammonia production, is profound, particularly in ensuring food security. The advent and widespread adoption of nitrogenous fertilizers have been instrumental in significantly amplifying global food production. Though quantifying the exact number of individuals nourished by nitrogenous fertilizers is challenging, estimates converge around 40% to 50% of the global population, which has burgeoned from 1.6 billion in the early 20th century to nearly 7.8 billion today.

Is Pres Trump's Trade War Hurting or Helping China?

The Truth Here; Depends On Where You Sit.

As one of the many small Caribbean countries, T&T is a spectators, a non player.Like every other country large or small we look on helplessly.

But we cannot say we are not in the game, like the pawns and rooks we affect the final outcome.

Most developing countries now owe the Chinese government millions and billions that they have invested in local infrastructure..

.
Western countries foundational philosophy , from the perspective of the Chinese, creates  "limited thinking or small mindedness".  Here is why...

The Chinese work on 100 year plans, in the West with 4 or 5 year plans.

In fact, in a democratic system of government requires that  political parties face the polls every for or five years. The result, is that plans change every 4 to 5 years.,

That means that in the space of 20 years a country could concievabley have 2 to 4 National Development plans.  That is the basis of checks and balances.

Compare that to the Chinese 100 year plan.  In their communist system of government the head of the ruling party was guaranteed a 10 year term. Recently that was changed to a life time of leadership.

President Donald Tromp is banging his chest like a wild Orangutan; he is a great deal maker. He is.  saving the America from the Chinese. His weapon of choice are trade tariffs, which in themselves are like trade boomerangs, turning at some point to come back to the sender.

The direct affects of these tariffs is that American suppliers will order less from China because of the higher cost thus directly affecting the Chinese economy.

Tariffs are paid by the importer, not the exporter, Americans; not Chinese.

For the  Chinese it in their favor that the  existing myopic thinking continue.  China is building the next Empire and it includes key countries in the world.

It is said that empires have historically changed every 200 years.

The writing is on the wall for anyone to see, The US, the world super power, now owes the Chinese trillions.

The Chinese have installed themselves in almost every important economy in almost every region of the world. The world owes a lot to China now.

Spectators and Pawns With Questions

For the developing countries already indebted to China is; how will all this affect our country?.

How will this trade war end?

We know when the dollar is affected it hurts the world economy.

What will China do?. Will they capitulate to President Trump's trade tariffs?

This is but a blip in China's progress to build an empire.

Understand China.

The Chinese are purposeful and intentional.

Consider this; for over the last 15 to 20 years China has inserted herself in every country of any significance in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean.

They did not just stumble on this idea, it is exactly how America and every other super power built their empires.

Trump will get his short term win but China will win in bigger in  the long term.

Want proof, read an article published on June 13, 2019 by China researcher,  Brian Tycangco

Here’s how China will emerge stronger from the trade war

After you read that article, ask yourself this question.

What part does countries like Jamaica, St. Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago play in the 100 year Chinese plan?

The Chinese literally own significant assets in every country, what is the end game?

As a country and region is there any one developing a model of what will actually transpire?

Love to hear some comments, suggestions or recommendations about how we as a people can make it better for the younger emerging generations.

If we care, we may not be able to stop what is happening, it is way to big for any one of us.

The real question is are we just going to sit and watch the game play out or will we put our head together and figure this thing out?

3rd World War - America vs China

Alarmist or Real Possibility?

When you are aware of the possibilities there are no surprises.

What affect would a war between America and China have on the Caribbean?

The affects would be very adverse to every Caribbean island from Cuba to Trinidad and Tobago.

Remember we are all hosts and owe significant sums to the Chinese.  Read a past post "Is China Colonizing The Caribbean?"

We have allowed the Chinese to become entrenched in every community.

Their modus operandi for smooth almost invisible infiltration are restaurants, grocery stores.

Lately, in Trinidad, you can't swing a dead dog without hitting a Chinese restaurant; they are sprouting up everywhere faster than tomatoes.

That is where it started, in the last few years, the have gone into the grocery food business. Large supermarkets have also began to spout up everywhere.

The real question that most of us are not asking is.

How could a Chinese immigrant who cannot even speak English, come to Trinidad and open a super duper grocery store?

Let's assume you come here with enough funds to open a grocery store as large as the stores that have been opening up in all the major commercial areas of Trinidad and Tobago.

You live in China, you have enough funds to open a grocery store in a tiny twin island like Trinidad and Tobago.  A place where, the people are accepting and really will not pay attention to the fact that you are control the very thing that they need to stay alive; food. .

Food is important, but even more important is money.  How could the Chines get a much free money from a country?  Have them give it to you with the hope that you will give them more than they gave you.

In other words, gambling.  It is a sure way to get money without having to work for it.  Did you notice how many Chinese run casinos are popping up in Trinidad?

People will do anything for money,  Gambling is the perfect money trap.  The Chinese know this.

Do you?

What would you do if suddenly you could not get food or money?

Who has and controlling both in Trinidad and the Caribbean?

View this video and you decide.

Is The Chinese Colonizing The Caribbean?

China's Expansionist Strategy Portends Economic Slavery For Future Caribbean Children

I am no racist. People who live their lives based on race are controlled by an instinctive tribal desire to be superior.  This dysfunction can usually be observed in people who personally or groups have no other redeeming qualities as human beings, so they hang on to what they did not choose.   My spirit tasted racism while living in the Southern United States,

I could still remember its bitterness even though it was many years ago.  My Grandmother used to say that good medicine taste bitter; it will either heal or kill you.  It healed me.  Not instantly, but over time I began to understand that the human race is evolving not contracting.  The world, our universe is a living organism; life manifests itself in a variety of forms.

My religious beliefs are in sync with my moral beliefs, as such; I have been a member of the Unity Church which started in the United States by Charles and Myrtle Fillmore earlier in this century.  This New Age thought movement emphasizes the spiritual quality in every man no matter his religion, race, culture or gender. I'm married to a Filipina, for love not money and certainly not to make any statement about race. That's my confession.  Why do I think I need to confess?

Because, by establishing that fact up front to you I am able to justify what I have to say about Chinese people.  If I did not, it would be easy to think that I am just being racist.  Instead, I would prefer any other label; i.e.  regional supporter, social activist or even a nationalist but never a racist.

You May Be Wondering The Same Thing
These observations I share with you are all personal gathered from reports on regional and world events.  This is not international politics; rather it can be considered grass root observations  with respect to a perceived Chinese plan for world domination. In a previous post I was less delicate with the headline.  I think that maybe I was just confused, trying to understand what was happening.  The post was entitle What The Hell Does The Chinese Want In The Caribbean

There is absolutely nothing wrong with these plans because at various points in history, different dominant cultures have ruled the world; Spain, France, Britain, and currently the United States hold sway on the way issues are handled globally.  The dominant country influences the language most of the world speaks, the currency that all others are pegged to and most importantly the measure of basic human freedom we enjoy.  We should tread very carefully when these basic rights to pursue happiness can be drastically curtailed.

What Do We Know?
We fear what we don’t know and we don’t know the Chinese.  That is not entirely true, fact is that it’s what we do know scares us.  We know that China is no respecter of human rights.  Tienanmen Square proved it.  If a government can violently suppress dissenting voices at home says a lot.  What do you think their reaction would be to Blacks and Indians in little islands in the Caribbean?   Both you and I know that Caribbean people can be dominantly passive.

We also know that China is in search of natural resources and land necessary to sustain their bulging population.  China is actively in dispute with almost every one of their neighbors for land space, Taiwan being most notable but also Japan, the Philippines, and even India.

You may or may not know that the Chinese do not prepare short term plans like the West.  For Westerners, a five year projection is a long term plan.  Read between the lines of this Chinese proverb;

“If you plan for one year; plant rice, if you plan for ten years; plant trees, if you plan for 100 years, educate mankind.”

What is becoming increasingly apparent is that the Chinese have decided to plant men.  They have established China Towns in almost every major city in the Western and Eastern Hemisphere.  A Chinese census revealed that the population of China excluding, Hong Kong and Macau (former British Territories) stood at 1,308,912,829 in 2010.  In words it translates to; one billion, three hundred eight million, nine hundred and twelve hundred thousand, eight hundred and twenty nine people.

You Should Be Concerned

Each person having the potential become a seed or host for another Chinese baby; the Chinese  one-child law is only relevant if they lived in China.   More important, to the Western countries, is the Chinese dismal record on human rights.  Almost every accepted aspect of the desired quality of human life they have disrespected or blatantly ignored.  For example, International social agencies are unable to document the precise number of annual executions that occur in China.

The Chinese have gone on record as limiting free speech and have been known to torture and humiliate many of their social activists and people labeled as dissidents.  These issues make Western and probably many Eastern countries uneasy and suspicious about what China can do.
Why should we be concerned about the Chinese now?

The truth is that this silent invasion of the Chinese did not begin yesterday.  Their plan was put in place probably before you were born and today sprouts have begun to bud.  For example, there are very few countries of any significance where you will NOT find Chinese people.  It is a well known fact now that economically China will surpass the US soon and in fact some major banks, none in the US, have begun to recognize the yen as the basis for trade.

More recently, they have adopted an aggressive expansionist posture, courting nations globally, offering to develop the country’s infrastructure, and partnering in any project that the country will allow.  The offer is usually accompanied by a request for exchange of concessionary natural resources and sometimes as outright loans to the target countries.

Heads up, this is important.

In Trinidad and Tobago, the population has been 1.3 million for the last 10 -15 years, maybe that count is maintained by the right number of birth and deaths.   Our primary resource is oil, Trinidad boast of the richest reserve in the Caribbean and the economy is presently on a high.  In the last decade or so, because of the large oil reserves discovered, this country has become a magnet for investors and internationally politically significant.

Recently we, the Caribbean people had two state visits in the space of two weeks one, the VP of the US and the other by the President of China.  If you believe that lightening strikes one place twice in two weeks, then you also believe in magic.  It was not a coincidence that both countries suddenly felt a compassion for two little rocks in the Caribbean.  Trinidad and Tobago is considered an emerging economy meaning that we are not yet developed, honestly, that is the truth; we are a long way from being developed.  Is it possible that the two superpowers see some value in courting the existing governments of the Caribbean?   It’s all big international politics with issues that are too complicated to decipher but let’s simplify it for a moment.

Neighborly Visits

Imagine you live in a community, you have what you can consider a decent piece of property and you are self sufficient.  Two of your rich neighbors from an entirely different community come to your house and offer to provide security for you.  One promises that if there is any conflict here, we can have security guards stationed in the house, with your permission, of course.  The other neighbor says that he will take care of your family’s health care.  He will give you the money to add some furniture and new appliances for the house and maybe do some renovations.  He also has enough people to do the job so your family will not really have to get involved in the construction.  The question is; what will you do?  Will you allow your neighbor to buy the furniture for your house?  There is no need to send and answer to that question.  Who would?

I will not go into details on what the Americans or the Chinese offered Caribbean. My focus is on the Caribbean’s government reaction.  Less than two weeks after the Chinese President left Trinidad, the T&T governments’ applied for the promised funds.  The sum being in the neighborhood of $822 million TTD, the government immediately announced plans for infrastructural improvements such as a hospital, stadium, and university.

Consider The Future Generations

That is a debt that our children and our children’s children will have to repay.  Trinidad and Tobago and all the other Caribbean islands that choose to ingratiate themselves to the Chinese to fill their coffers are putting a huge obligation on the country without asking the people in a referendum.
The Chinese know this.  They also know that anyone with a position in our government now will not be there in 5 years.

The fact is, that the Chinese are not stupid, they are not lending money to the present government administration; they are lending it to the country.  They do not care who is in power, one way or the other someone will be obligated to pay in cash or kind.  Reminds me of stickers on cars in North Carolina back in the early 90s, they read: “Ass, grass or gas; everybody pays”.   The Chinese is on a path to return us to slavery by way of economic colonialism.

Greed and Stupidity?

The writing has begun to appear on the wall.  Already, there is talk of giving permission to a huge Chinese company to develop a dry dock in parts of the island.  That’s permission to open a virtual side door where Trinidad and Tobago will open to the Chinese world.  Is Trinidad stupid?
The Caribbean, as an entity, should not continue to be blinded by materialism and a few million dollars that will eventually place an unbearable burden on its future generations.

Before their respective governments stick out their greedy hands to grab concessions, especially as in the case of Trinidad and Tobago where there is uncontrolled corruption and obvious malfeasance.  In the case of the Chinese advances, it may be too late; however, there’s a lesson to be learned here.  Learn from the Chinese, that as a region, each country should map out a minimum of a 20 year plan for economic, infrastructural and social development.

At a minimum they need to put the machinery in place for long term debt repayment and restitution of the moneys “gifted” to each nation.  This refers not only to gifts from the Chinese but from America, India or the British.  It will not affect us now but if we care about the future for our children we will begin to sit up and pay attention.

The burning question for each of us is; what can we, as citizens of the Caribbean do?

The Making of Jamaica by Air - A Documentary Video

Jamaica By Air - An Entrepreneur's Story

When I first heard the name of this book, I assumed it was the usual tourist fodder.  It certainly can be used to attract tourist but the story behind the book is what to me is more important.  I just the entrepreneurial spirit of the author/photographer.  With a small investment he was able to fund his idea and actual make his dream come true.

The Caribbean Blogger would not represent peoples of the Caribbean if it did not, without obligation, promote this book.  This professional done video tells the story behind the making of the book. You get to see some of the captivating shots that makes up Jamaica by Air.  Enjoy it.

From Malaysia To Trinida & Tobago - A Net Friendship That Hurts

If you don’t know, know now; Malaysia is a country where the sentence is death by hanging for possession of drugs.  A few Asian countries do it, China, Turkey and some Arabian countries.

In the West, the death penalty for drugs no matter how much is inconceivable.  The fact is that if you get caught with enough drugs and you can get so much time that it’s a slow one day at a time death penalty.  If you live in the Caribbean and deal with drugs; pay attention.

This is what my young niece likes to call, a “true story”.  It’s so true that it would not qualify for reality TV.

A few years ago I started using yahoo instant messenger and Skype.com. Within a short space of time I had a number of “friends” on both networks who I chatted with regularly.   One of those friends was a lady by the name of Eleanor, a forty eight year old single Filipina.

She’s or maybe was (tell you why later) living in Malaysia and attending a Christian Church.  My perception of Eleanor was that she was a giver.  She had started a school with the help of her sister in the Philippines that catered for orphaned Filipino children.  She provided financial support for the school from the work she did in Malaysia.  It’s amazing how many things that can be done with a change in currency.   She did not have much but that was only one of her charities.

She was a Domestic Helper working for a Malaysian family.  To add to her income she arranged for other Domestic Helpers from the Philippines to come to Malaysia.  She would locate jobs, contact other Domestic Helpers at home and arrange to lend them the funds to come to Malaysia.  She was paid the equivalent of one month salary over a three month period and reimbursed for the cost of the plane ticket.  It worked for her.

She encouraged me to help support the school financially.  Mind you, I’m as suspicious as anybody else online so I satisfied my skepticism by having the school checked out by another friend in the Philippines. Further I never sent money to her but through my friend to her sister who managed the school.  I did not ask but her sister took the trouble to send with copies of receipts for the items purchased for the children.  Pictures of book bags, paper and pencils; I was satisfied that I was helping good cause.

She was able to get her daughter, family members and quite a few Filipinas into Malaysia to work.   To cut a long story short one day she disappeared.  I thought nothing of it but after a few months of sending occasional messages with no responses, I gave up.   I realized that something was wrong.  Not that it worried me but I was a little concerned.

Then about a year later, I got a message.  Guess what she had to tell me? No, don’t.   I know you would not be able to because I knew het or thought I did then bigger more serious questions came to mind.  It would be too long to tell it all in this post so…

I will share it with you in my next post.  It just builds the belief that life and reality is stranger than fiction.  Sometimes we find ourselves in positions that there is nothing we can do but watch life unfold and accept it.
See you soon.

Take a guess at what it was if you dare.

Caribbean Web Site Scam Alert

A True Story Of An Actual Scam

“There is honor among thieves.” Proverb

Read This And Tell A Friend You May Short Circuit A Scam

The post today is about a despicable individual who has been scamming Caribbean business owners for the past 6 years. Sadly, there is nothing the authorities can do because the Caribbean islands are not protected under US laws. The company behind the site claims to have offices in South Florida and Virgin Islands.

The Background

The story unfolds when I was contacted by a former client and friend. She had sent an invitation to me to join her new Facebook group. The name of the fan page said it all “IslandYellowPages is a Scam: if you have been Scammed join this group" If you were scammed please join the group.

Being sensitive to these things I emailed her a short message asking what happened and at the same time informing her that I could not join her group. The reasons were simple, I was not scammed and it will send the wrong message for me professionally. I did promise to help her in any way I could. This is the result of that promise.

She was livid, she sent me an email promising to get back at them using a number of revenge tactics that she described in detail which I prefer not to share here. She was ademant that the company and the individuals responsible be exposed in Trinidad and Tobago, the Caribbean and the World.

The Investigation

This is what I found out when I looked into it...

You will need to follow along and click the links below so you can see yourself. My friend provided the links that identified the company as IslandYellowPages.net and the named perpetrator, a Mr. David Randall Phillip, 6021 Williamsburg Way Tampa Fl. 33625. You can read the blog post here outlining all the sordid details.

The Perp's Web Site

I followed the link to IslandYellowPages.net (the one above) a website that gives the impression of being a Yellow Page Directory with a listing for all the islands in the Caribbean and the Philippine islands. Strange... is not the Philippines Islands continents apart from the Caribbean islands?

The site is positioned as a vacation directory with Hotels and Resorts listings.
Clicked on the navigation button labeled “Categories” and it brings up a listing of too many categories to read. Using the search box on the top, I typed "gifts" and used the dropdown box to pick out Trinidad.

The Client Web Listing

The search located 6 businesses in Trinidad. Next I clicked to see the website. Ok, if you did not follow the path I took still take a look at one of the sites if you are on there. Not a website at all but just a listing page with a link to a web site that does not exist.

Every other business listing had the same page. Out of curiosity I clicked back and did other searchs. I searched “cars” more listings. “Hotels” no listings, “resorts” no listings. Why would a vacation site not have one hotel or resort listings in Trinidad?

Riding On The Coattail Of A Legitimate Site

I’m no Sherlock but then I probed a little deeper into the site;s "Advertising" page. What I observed is that the site blatantly aligned itself with the real “Caribbean Yellow Pages the online Caribbean telephone directory.

Compare the sites yourself by using the two previous links to see how they make reference to Caribbean Yellow pages interchangeably with Island Yellow Pages. I’m sure that the Caribbean Yellow Pages company officials will love to see this page.

The Amazing Price Per Listing

Now here is the kicker. All the listings are allegedly purchased at a price of $954 USD per listing. That’s approximately $6000 TTD. The straw that broke the camel back for my friend was after about 3 months the company contacted her and demanded an additional payment of $500USD to keep the listing. That one page was going to cost her $9000 TTD to stay up for 12 months.

As I said, this company is preying on business owners in all the Caribbean islands and there are no authorities here to take action against them. As you may have read it is already in the hands of the Florida State Attorney and the Better Business Bureau.

Even if this was not a scam, the businesses listed on this site are not receiving any value for their money. Not only are these pages buried too deep in the site but the pages do not point to any business website or even have an email address. The only contact is a phone number.

Honestly, I was totally surprised to see the number of local businesses that had listings on this service. As I have noted in other post the digital divide in the Caribbean is wide and unscurpulous people are taking advantage of this lack of internet know how.

Even if you did not believe what was written on the blog about the owner of this site, the site itself provides ample proof its using unethical online marketing tactics to scam visitors.

What You Need To Do

Help spread the word about this site, Tell everyone and anyone you know about it, if you or your friends are not being scammed they may have friends who are. Copy, paste, tag and comment on this article so that all of your friends become aware of this scam.

This is worst than being infected by a computer virus. I commend my friend for being bold enough not to melt quietly into cyber space and keeping this a secret.

If you are on FB tag your friends to this note, not only in Trinidad and Tobago but the Caribbean.

Every business person you know should be alerted. If you have the time search the site for businesses you know, make sure none of your friends are being scammed. My search revealed a number of Trinidad businesses listed. Check by island and let your friends know how to check or direct them to this article.

Be Careful About Phone Calls

Also take note of how the site owner tries to scam companies by slapping up a quick listing after a phone conversation then attempting to collect payment. If you should ever be contacted by this company, act accordingly. Do your friends a favor let everyone know about this.

If you're on FB and was tagged on this note; cut and paste it into a note of your own and tag the people who you think this could help. Share it with your friend or make a comment. These people must be stopped. Let’s help get the word out.

This is a blog post on the Caribbean Blogger with a and a Facebook Note on Guerilla Marketing Fan page.
