Dangerous Automobiles In Trinidad and Tobago

T&T Government Must Enact Laws To Stop This Deadly Practice

 With over 15 years working in the US automobile industry, It astonished me to see some of the  dangerous modifications that are made to automobiles in T&T.

Imagine, engines from one manufacturer's model are regularly replaced with engines built for another's manufacturer model; they work too.

Almost every part on an automobile is fabricated to fit any other make or model.  It follows that the after-market parts industries in developing countries are multi-million dollar businesses,

But there is one part that is sold out of greed and purchased because of ignorance.

Take a look at a recent picture .

What you are looking at is the front end of an automobile being loaded on a flatbed truck.  The lady who purchased this was excited to have found and purchased it to repair her damaged automobile.

Here is the problem.

Over the years there have been a number of newspaper reports about automobile splitting in two parts after a crash.  There have also been reports of automobiles splitting in two with no apparent cause. It is usually blamed on speed

The problem is no matter the level of expertise a welder has in Trinidad, metal cannot be welded to compare with a solid piece of steel.

Automobiles are built around what is known as a uni-body construction, a solid steel frame, one piece of metal; without any welds.

That did not just happen to be that way.  The intention was that the frame would protect the occupants of the car in case of accidents.  It would bend but not break.

Here is what happens when cars are welded. When you read the article notice that nothing is mentioned about the split automobile.

The most recent was reported in the Trinidad Express,on November, 21st 2017;

The point is knowing about the danger and not doing anything about it should be a crime.  These automobiles are dangerous to the general public, not just the person who made the decision to purchase and weld the front end of their car to their damaged vehicle.

Any predictions on when enacting laws that will prevent the sale of these parts?.
